2001 Inaugural Event

Teams have arrived from as far afield as the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the Carolinas. Joining the numerous superb charter boats based in Bermuda itself, this inaugural event boasts 18 boats.

While that certainly doesn't qualify as the biggest fishing tournament in the world, it portends to be one of the most elegant. The kickoff dinner held at water's edge in the garden of the beautiful Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel in Hamilton played to a packed house. A sumptuous buffet of varieties of fresh local fish and roast vegetables with herbs kept everyone happy throughout the Captain's meeting.

Like other Sport Fishing Magazine-organized tournaments around the world, this event rewards the release of billfish. In fact, a 500-pound minimum combines with devastating penalties for undersize fish at the dock to limit boated fish.

Tournament Director Dan Jacobs tallied a pot of $85,000 in prize money to add to the $25,000 in other prizes to be awarded at Sunday nights Awards Banquet.

Tune in for daily updates -- morning, afternoon and evening to keep abreast of the incredible fishing Bermuda has to offer.
