2003 Day 2 Results
The team on Oppositional surged ahead on the second day of the 2003 Bermuda Big Game Classic with two blue marlin released. Mike Nichols and Sean Kelly each added one of the big fish to Kelly's Day-One catch to give Oppositional a total of 1,500 points and the overall lead at the end of Day Two. Coming off a win of this year's Fourth of July World Cup tournament, Oppositional has proven itself the team to beat in big game competitions.
Dana Ann's anglers were unable to add to their Day One total (two blue marlin released/1000 points) and fell from first to second place. Yesterday's second place team on Hog Wild also failed to score on Day Two and slid to third overall on time.
Ian Whitehead, angling on Panchdara, a 35-foot Main Coaster, one of several smaller boats in the tournament, added a blue marlin release to his white marlin from Day One. The catch raised the team score to 700 points. Tied with points but behind on time to Hog Wild, they held strong in fourth place. Their blue was estimated at or near the 500-pound minimum weight, but the team is not entered in the Finest Kind Offshore Tackle Daily Jackpot. The fish, hooked at 3:03 in the afternoon, was released for its 500 point score two minutes after "lines out" was called by tournament director Dan Jacobs.
Even though Day Two saw more blue marlin were released than Day One, none were weighed in, leaving Jim Lambert's Reel Tight and its Captain, Eddie Herbert, on top of the big fish category.
The lone wahoo weighed in on Day Two was a 29-pound speedster taken by Triple Play, but it fell 10 pounds short in the largest gamefish category. Triple Play's crew took a good run on the crying towel category by losing three blue marlin due to pulled hooks. (Try some metal ones today, guys!)
For the second day, the Bacardi sponsored tent in the weigh-in area at Barrs Park was crowded with contestants, wives and families. In Country & Western parlance, the winners were telling stories and the losers were saying "deal the cards again".
