2007 Day One: Big Game Classic Daily Report

Bermuda Big Game Classic 2007 - Report

The 7th Annual Bermuda Big Game Classic got off to a great start with an impressive total of 57 boats registering at the kickoff party in the Harbor View Ballroom at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

"Coming off the heels of a successful Billfish Blast and another World Cup win for Bermuda, the energy at the kickoff party and captain's meeting at the start of the Classic was electrifying" said tournament producer Dan Jacobs.

The tradition lives on, as this year's event kicked off with a Boat Parade at 6:45 a.m. followed by a Fleet Blessing 7:45 a.m.  Fishing began with lines in at 8:00 a.m. and earnest anglers awaiting bites from blue marlin for 500 points, white marlin to earn 200 points and for sailfish and spearfish, teams will receive 100 points.

Up for grabs to the winning teams will be over $500,000 in cash and great prizes.  Additionally, teams were greeted with a tournament bag stuffed with goodies from our generous sponsors.

As they checked in, each angler was given door prize tickets and a chance to win great prizes given away by our many outstanding sponsors such as reels from Penn Reels, lures from Jaslures, clothing from Pelagic, artwork by artist Steve Goione and sunglasses from Ocean Waves, Jeppesen, etc.

A big thank you to Trustee Scott Steele for sponsoring The Billfish Foundation to be attendance at this year's Classic.

The 2007 Marlin Magazine Manufacturer's Cup has seven manufacturers competing: Hatteras, Bertram, Jarrett Bay Boatworks, Briggs Boatworks, Whiticar, Viking and Spencer.  All are supporting their owners in this special division within the tournament.  Bertram won the 2006 award with team Rum Bum's incredible performance.  Teams fishing on board one of these will be automatically entered in the added competition for more cash, prizes and recognition.

The Bermuda Big Game Classic is Bermuda's largest billfish event and the centerpiece of the Bermuda Triple Crown Billfish Championship.  Boats fishing in the Classic are automatically entered in the Bermuda Triple Crown Series

A big thank you to the Bermuda Department of Tourism, our great sponsors, all the participants for making this year a HUGE success and the US boats for making the long haul to Bermuda.

A midday unofficial update for the first day of fishing has 13 blues released, 12 whites released and one blue boated by Weez in the Keys thus far.
