BERMUDA BIG GAME CLASSIC - DAY ONE UPDATE

The following results are unofficial until awards are given.

 

A decent bite today - 57 boats fishing the 2007 Big Game Classic scored with 17 blue marlin releases,16 white marlin releases, one blue marlin boated and some nice game fish.

It appears that the HOTTEST boat in Bermuda continues to be just that - "Queen of Hearts" - fresh off the World Cup victory and three straight Triple Crown top-three finishes - released two blues and one white today.
So it appears that Capt. Peter Olander and team have won the Day-One Billfish Release Jackpot worth $32,000.  The only other boat to score two blue marlin releases was visiting boat "Perfect Parts" and so they sit in second place.  Both "Sea Toy" and "Notorious" scored with a blue and a white release for 700 points each.  "Overproof" and team Jimmy Dreams released the first blue marlin of the day at 8:48 am and thereby won the Davis Wealth Management Geoffrey Smith Sculpture along with cash of $1,500.

Visiting boat "Bree", having already released the first billfish of the tournament (a white at 8:17 am), hooked-into a good size blue marlin at
12:08 pm.  This blue marlin was hooked on 80 lb test and they fought it for over 5 hours !!!
Unfortunately, the end result was a broken line........

At 1:02 pm, "Weez in the Keys" hooked into a solid blue marlin that they subsequently boated at 1:36 pm. The fish hit the scales and weighed in at 616-pounds. Therefore "Weez in the Keys" (with Bermuda's own Brooks Rans aboard) has won the Day-One Marlin Jackpot worth $32,000 and leads the winner take all marlin jackpot.

In the game fish category," Runabout" boated a yellow fin that weighed 92.7-pounds to lead the game fish category.
